The year begins with colours

As much as I love, a simple Zentangle® with just using Micron 01 Black pen and graphite pencil; sometimes I change the approach and just grab whatever colour pencils; paints; GellyRoll and more to complete my artwork. At such times, a simple Zentangle® that was supposed to be completed in 90 minutes; stretches longer and I finish it elaborate hours.

As an artist; I have never been able to limit myself with just a few tools and techniques. Yet, the Zentangle® Founders often remind us teachers of the importance of Elegance of Limits.

I have heard in art podcasts that I follow; when artists recommend keeping practice using one medium of art. They further emphasize how it is important to build familiarity with the materials.

In Zentangle®, this flow-state is easily achieved by keeping the tools and techniques simple and possible in the art. So, this time, I gave some limits to myself and I stuck to only colour pencils.

I decided to choose colours that I rarely use; to see if I can create something in combination. During the application time; I was easily able to transcend myself from frustration space to flow-state; as my intention was to enjoy the process and not try to finish the artwork. Now that I see the finished artwork, I am loving the result.
